Hilary Swank 'wasn't ready' to have kids before she turned 47

Hilary Swank says she wasn't ready to be a mother before the age of 47, revealing she was "career-focused" until her 40s but at that stage, she didn't have a partner.

"I knew I wanted to be an actor since I was eight years old, and I have loved my careerI'm hopefully always going to be an actor" Swank, now 50, told PEOPLE.

"So I was really career-focused and I wasn't ready to have children in my 20s, or really even in my 30s, and then I hit my 40s and I didn't have a partner."

"That doesn't mean I had to have a partner," the actress continued.

"A lot of people get donors, and that's a wonderful option, a lot of people adopt, there's a lot of different ways, and so I was open to anything."

Swank met husband Philip Schneider in 2014 on a blind date.

The couple wed in 2018 and welcomed fraternal twins in April 2023, son Ohm and daughter Aya.

The Oscar winner was 48 at the time of her children's births.

"I was 47 when I got pregnant, and I feel like I have a lot more patience, and I've done a lot of my own personal work to be the type of mother I want to be, whereas it would've just been different in my twenties and thirties," she says.

"I don't think I would've had the patience and the grace that I hopefully can bestow a little bit more [of] now, and a self-awareness in a different way that I don't need to focus on myself anymore in the way that I did at that point."

Swank has shared glimpses of her children on social media including a recent flight home on Fiji Airways during which they were given a tour of the cockpit.

It was in a Valentine's Day post on February 14 that Swank first revealed the names of her children.

In the photo, the toddlers are seated on the sand with their names written on the sand behind them.

"I have a busy week of talk shows ahead where I'll be sharing about my new film and a fun partnership, but I figured what better day to share the names of my two little loves with you all first," she wrote.

The actress shared her children's births in a post along with a photo showing her cradling the tiny bubs.

"It wasn't easy. But boy (and girl!) was it worth it. Happy Easter! Posting from pure Heaven," she captioned the post.
