'Dream come true': Cate Blanchett signed up for more than acting on latest ambitious project

When Cate Blanchett teamed up with filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón for their latest ambitious project, she wanted to be involved in every little detail.

So the two-time Oscar-winning Aussie actress and four-time Oscar-winning Mexican director worked together as executive producers on the new TV series Disclaimer.

The seven-episode cinematic mini-series also stars Blanchett in the lead role but, she tells 9honey Celebrity, she didn't struggle juggling both of the demanding roles.

"Whether I'm involved in something as a producer or not – I was an exec producer and, I think, really a sounding board for Afonso, it's totally his vision – I'm interested in the whole piece," Blanchett tells 9honey Celebrity on the red carpet at the London Film Festival premiere of the Apple TV+ series.

"Whether I die on page nine or on page 99 or don't die at all, I'm interested in the whole process from development through to when it hits the audience, as this will on Friday.

"So it didn't feel different in that way. I mean to be asked to be come on board as an exec producer when it's Alfonso Cuarón is a particular."

Cuarón was just as appreciative of his collaborator, calling it "a dream come true".

"For me, it was a joy," the director tells 9honey Celebrity.

"As a director, you have somebody who's really taking care of every single detail of what you're doing – and not only that, is like pushing you to go further and that is a dream come true."

Disclaimer also stars Sacha Baron Cohen as Blanchett's husband, while '90s acting legend Kevin Kline returns to screens after a three-year absence to play a grieving father out for revenge on Blanchett's character, Catherine Ravenscroft.

Ravenscroft, a respected and successful journalist, has her life start to unravel after the publication of a book threatening to expose a secret from her past.

The mini-series also stars Australian actress Leila George – daughter of Australian actress Greta Scacchi – as a young Catherine Ravenscroft.

George says she didn't know her fellow Aussie actress before starting work on the series but admits she'd met Blanchett once before as a kid.

"I think I was about 12 at my family house in Sussex, but no, I really don't know her," George tells 9honey Celebrity.

"She was so lovely and welcoming to me. I feel really honoured to be a part of this with her."

Disclaimer will launch on AppleTV+ on October 11 with two episodes and then weekly episode releases to follow.
