Brett Favre’s Message to Aaron Rodgers After Record-Breaking TD Will Give You Chills: ‘Go Get Us Another Super Bowl’

Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers are both legendary quarterbacks for the Green Bay Packers in their own right, but Rodgers now has a leg-up on the quarterback he once replaced.

On Christmas day against the Browns, Rodgers broke Favre’s Green Bay record of 442 touchdown passes thrown. Rodgers threw number 443 late in the first quarter of the game and finished the game with 445.

He’ll undoubtedly add to that number over the rest of this season and possibly into the future, but Favre is looking for his understudy to accomplish an even bigger goal for the Packers.

It was 3rd-and-5 from the Cleveland 11. The Packers were gifted great field position thanks to a Baker Mayfield interception just a few players earlier (his first of four picks thrown) and were looking to cash in with their first score of the game.

Facing a collapsing pocket and a pretty good Cleveland pass rush, Rodgers took a three-step drop and threw a dart out to Allen Lazard in the flats. Lazard turned upfield, took a few steps, and dove for the pylon at the front corner of the endzone.

Touchdown, Packers. It was No. 443 for Rodgers.

After the initial celebration and jubilee, the Lambeau Field scoreboard lit up to show a video of Favre, who congratulated his former backup on breaking his record.

“I have one request. Go get us another Super Bowl,” Favre said as the Lambeau Field crowd roared.

Favre and Rodgers only have two Super Bowl wins between them

Some consider it one of the great travesties in sports. Others, more critical of the organization, view it as malfeasance on the part of Green Bay’s front office.

Either way, the Packers have boasted two of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game in Favre and Rodgers. One is in the Hall of Fame, and the other will be in it once he hangs up his cleats.

It’s truly incredible when you think about it. Replacing a Hall of Fame quarterback is tough enough, but that’s precisely what the Packers were able to do by replacing No. 4 with No. 12. The fact that there was no gap between the two legendary quarterbacks makes it even more impressive. The Packers had to wait a number of years between the era of Bart Starr and Favre. Rodgers sat for three seasons behind Favre and then took over for him in season four and immediately had great success. Favre was shipped off to the New York Jets and ultimately signed with the Minnesota Vikings, but we don’t talk about that dark period of time.

Two of the greatest ever to do it, but the Packers have only hoisted the Lombardi twice between the two of them. Favre made two Super Bowls, beating the Patriots in Super Bowl 31 while losing to John Elway and the Broncos in Super Bowl 32.

For his part, Rodgers led the Packers to a win over the Steelers in Super Bowl 45, but he and the Pack haven’t been back to the big game since.

Rodgers has been to four NFC Championship games since that Super Bowl season, but he hasn’t gotten the Packers over the hump.

Can Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers make the Super Bowl this season?

The Packers should be considered the favorite to win it all as the playoffs quickly approach. After beating Cleveland, they’re 12-3 and closing in on clinching the 1st overall seed in the NFC playoffs.

Rodgers is at the peak of his powers and is in the running for a second-straight MVP award and his fourth overall. He also has elite talent around him. Davante Adams is the best wide receiver in football and the Packers have an incredible one-two punch at running back in the duo of Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon.

The Packers do have some things to button up on defense, but they’re one of the most opportunistic units in the NFL and feature play-makers like Rashan Gary, Preston Smith, Rasul Douglas, and Kenny Clark.

If the Packers can get back injured Pro Bowlers David Bakhtiari (left tackle) or Jaire Alexander (cornerback), lookout. They’ll be nearly unbeatable.

Rodgers has all the right players around him to finally win another Super Bowl, and he has one of the best young coaches in the game on his sideline in Matt LaFleur.

This is a team that plays in “Title Town, USA.” The trophy they’re fighting for is named after their legendary coach, Vince Lombardi. Individual awards and records are excellent, but they pale in comparison to what another Super Bowl win would mean for Rodgers, Green Bay, and even Favre.

Rodgers knows it. Apparently, Favre knows it.

The Packers are talking the talk as the playoffs quickly approach. Now they just need to walk the walk.

Nothing short of another Lombardi will do for Favre, Rodgers, and the Packers.
