Tom Hiddleston Says He Has No Plans To Stop Playing Loki

Most actors grow tired of playing the same role over and over again, but that evidently doesn’t apply to Tom Hiddleston, looking at his unbridled love of all things Loki. The actor has been the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s resident God of Mischief for ten years already, and with Season 2 of his Disney Plus series already confirmed and the high probability of more movie appearances as well, he’ll be sticking around for a long time yet.

The 40 year-old may be a Golden Globe winner with a vast array of stage and screen performances under his belt, but unless something drastic changes, his career is always going to remain defined by the Asgardian trickster. Looking at Hiddleston’s entire filmography, getting into character as Loki has accounted for six of his 20 feature film credits, while his ten-episode stint in 2006 British comedy Suburban Shootout is the only part he’s played on the small screen more often, with next month’s What If…? bringing him up to seven episodic outings as Loki in total, split across two shows.

With that in mind, it’s hardly surprising that when asked, Hiddleston freely admitted that he’s got absolutely no intention of hanging up the horns any time soon, and he’d love to keep revisiting the mischievous fan favorite for as long as possible.

“Would I? Yeah, absolutely. I’m so lucky that I’ve got to play Loki for this long, and you know, I feel like he’s such an interesting character who’s been around in human consciousness for so long. And he’s got so many different aspects, so many different complex characteristics, that it feels like every time I play him I find out something new or we get to evolve him or take him down an avenue that we haven’t gone down before. Yeah, he’s been around for a while. I think he’s going to be around for a lot longer. Meanwhile, I’ll just hold on for as long as people want me to hold on for.”

Now that Loki has been anointed as the first of the MCU’s Disney Plus exclusives to be getting a second season, we’ll be getting more Hiddleston than ever before, which is never a bad thing. The introduction of the multiverse has also set him up to cameo across every possible timeline, so audiences better get used to seeing him all over the shared mythology for the foreseeable future.
