On Thursday, the Ukrainian National Film Critics Circle hosted its annual Kinokolo awards, recognizing the best cinema of the country. The ceremony — which saw Cannes premiere “Pamfir” and the country’s International Feature Film Oscar submission “Klondike” take the top prizes — occurred shortly after a Russian airstrike hit a power plant in the city, killing three citizens and causing power loss and blackouts.

Due to the continuing threat of the Russian invasion, the ceremony took place in an unusual setting: an underground bunker in Kyiv, where the voting critics, host and directors came together to put on the show, in spite of the challenges they faced. Here are some photos from behind the scenes of the event, which was recorded for national broadcast by Suspilne Kultura.
