'Nobody Wants This' Leaves 2025 Emmys Empty-Handed After 3 Nominations

The cast and crew of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This celebrated their outstanding first season at the 2025 Emmys.

The romantic comedy series was nominated in three major categories on TV’s biggest night, which took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 14.

Adam Brody received his first-ever Emmy nod in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category for his role as Noah Roklov. Brody, 45, went up against Seth Rogen (The Studio), Jason Segel (Shrinking), Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building) and Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), ultimately losing to Rogen, 43.

Meanwhile, Kristen Bell was up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series — her first Primetime Emmy nomination — for her role as Joanne. Competing against her in the category were Uzo Aduba (The Residence), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) and Jean Smart (Hacks). Bell, 45, lost the award to Smart, 74.

Nobody Wants This was also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series alongside Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking, The Studio and What We Do in the Shadows. The Studio ended up taking home the accolade.

Nobody Wants This stars Brody and Bell as “hot Rabbi” Noah and sex podcaster Joanne, respectively, who fall in love despite their wildly different lives and meddling families.

Series creator Erin Foster opened up about experiencing several rejections in Hollywood prior to the success of Nobody Wants This during her appearance at the show’s Televerse Festival FYC panel in August, per Gold Derby.

“It’s like my 14th project,” Foster, 43, said. “I got really used to failing and really used to something being special to me, but not special to anybody else. You don’t know when you’re so close to it if it’s going to resonate. And I just got very lucky with this cast.”

She continued, “In the past, I’ve had feedback like, ‘It feels like a play,’ or, ‘Not enough is happening.’ There aren’t big comedic moments. I don’t write traditional jokes. So sometimes I thought maybe it would just be too small. The irony is it ended up being so big.”

Foster added that Joanne and Noah’s first kiss, which became the show’s most-talked-about scene and a viral moment in 2024, felt even better after years of rejections.

“Failing isn’t as fun as this,” she said. “If this had been my first show, I might have thought I was just going to make hits forever. But because it took me so long, I can really appreciate it. It’s very surreal.”

Meanwhile, Bell — whose husband, Dax Shepard, celebrated her Emmy nomination by sharing a photo of her nude backside on Instagram — reflected on how she felt when she first read Foster’s script.

“Erin had such a creative vision that hadn’t really been done before — slower and more hyper-realistic,” Bell said. “I didn’t trust myself at first. I’d keep asking her, ‘Did I do that right? Is there enough here to make someone stay on this channel?’ And she’d say, ‘Calm down, it’s enough. Trust me.’ And she was right.”
