Jean Smart Jokes She's a 'Greedy Bitch' After 2026 Golden Globes Awards Win

Ladies who deliver the laughs reigned supreme at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards.

Jean Smart took home the award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Hacks during the Sunday, January 11, ceremony at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

From the moment she began her speech she had the audience and viewers in stitches, saying, “Oh, my God. What can I say, I’m a greedy bitch.” (Smart was also escorted to the stage by George Clooney, making Us swoon with envy.)

The actress, 74, soaked in the laughs from her fellow actors before adding, “Thank you to the Golden Globes. I am absolutely thrilled to be here. I am one of the luckiest people in, not this room, this entire business. It does not going unappreciated.”

Smart proceeded to thank her costars, Hacks showrunners and her family, calling the comedy “an incredible journey.”

She concluded by reminding everyone what’s most important in life. “Let’s all do the right thing. I think everybody in their hearts knows the right thing to do, so do the right thing,” Smart said.

The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri, Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega, Nobody Wants This’ Kristen Bell, Poker Face’s Natasha Lyonne and Only Murders in the Building’s Selena Gomez rounded out the list of nominees in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy category.

Ahead of Sunday’s event, both Smart and Edebiri, 30, were already Golden Globe winners. For her work on Hacks, Smart previously took home Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy in 2022 and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy in 2025, while Edebiri received Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy for her role on The Bear in 2024. Smart and Edebiri’s total nods for their fan-favorite shows over the years come in at four and three, respectively.

The remaining contenders in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy category have all been nominated for Golden Globes in the past. Gomez, 33, previously vied for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy for Only Murders in the Building in 2023, 2024 and 2025 and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for Emilia Pérez in 2025.

2026 Golden Globes Winners List

For her part, Bell, 45, previously competed for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for The Good Place in 2019 and Nobody Wants This in 2025.

Meanwhile, Lyonne, 46, was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Russian Doll in 2020 and Poker Face in 2024.

As for Ortega, 23, she previously earned a nod for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Wednesday in 2023.

Four of the shows featured in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy category received additional nominations in other categories. Only Murders in the Building had a total of four, including for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Gomez’s costars Martin Short and Steve Martin.

Hacks, The Bear and Nobody Wants This had three each, with all of the shows receiving a nod for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. The remaining nominations were in the acting categories: Hacks’ Hannah Einbinder for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television and The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White and Nobody Wants This’ Adam Brody for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy.
