Cher shuts down fan who called Dua Lipa 'the Cher of our generation'

Let it be known, Cher is always lurking online.

The 'Believe' singer has shut down a fan who tried to dampen her light recently, by likening Dua Lipa to her.

Here's what the fan tweeted: "Dua Lipa, the Cher of our generation," alongside a side-by-side edit of Cher performing onstage at various moments of her career, and the 27-year-old 'Levitating' singer also performing at various moments of her career.

To this, Cher replied, "How many years are in a generation 🤔."

Ooft.

The comment by Dua Lipa fan account @levdua has since been deleted, with the user even sharing an apology.

"Well I'm truly sorry for the whole Cher x Dua situation," they tweeted. "I was just praising their looks and promoting the edit."

The pair certainly do look similar.

Plenty of loyal Cher fans came to the singer's aid following her tweet.

"Exactly! Someone tried to say an artist was the Mariah Carey of our generation and I responded that Mariah still is," they tweeted. "You are still very much the Cher of our generation."

Another wrote: "You're the only Cher of all generations, they can be beautiful and talented but no one compares, it's like comparing candles and a Supernova, You win."

The topic became so popular, it even ended up trending in the US – to @levdua's dismay.

A third shared: "I came here to tell you that you are the only Cher of all generations, so there are infinity years in your generation.

"Just about everyone else has said something similar, so I guess you know how we feel Cher!! There is and will always be, only one Cher!!"
