The Veronicas announce solo careers and tease their new singles

The Veronicas shocked fans this morning when they announced they are going their separate ways and pursuing solo careers.

Aussie duo Lisa and Jessica Origliasso, 37, shared the news on their respective Instagram accounts, with each releasing teaser clips from their new singles, which both drop on September 7.

"ARE YOU ON MY TEAM..🏎🔥🔥 JESSIE333 dropping September 7th 2022," Jess captioned her would-be music video on Instagram, which sees her play the part of a race car driver.

Lisa was more straightforward in her Instagram announcement, writing: "I'm going solo💘🪐🪐. LISA VERONICA dropping September 7th 2022." 

Meanwhile, The Veronicas' official account has been wiped clean with only this quote in the bio: "Love knows not its own depth, until the hour of separation."

The duo became one of Australia's biggest pop-rock outfits after the release of their debut album The Secret Life Of… in 2005. They went on to release four more studio albums, and a string of hit singles including Hook Me Up and Untouched.

However, since last October, there has been speculation about the direction of their music when they split from their label, Warner Bros. Records. Relationships got messy between the pair and the studio, with The Veronicas soon rejoining Sony music.

"After five years of being in a 'Warner Brothers Records Lockdown', we are officially able to move forward RELEASING and recording music without our past label dictating our creative journey, or withholding our musical releases and touring," they said in a statement. 

"It's been a long time coming, but we finally got off our old record label," they added.  "So now we're here in Los Angeles for the next three weeks finishing our record with Sony Music."
