Watch 17-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys champion the power of music education and educators in an inspiring speech at the 2019 Grammys.
In her uplifting speech, Keys, who hosted the 2019 Grammys, shared a personal story about the impact of music teachers on her life and artistic journey. "One reason I'm standing here tonight is because I was blessed to have really dedicated music teachers in my life," Keys said from the Grammy stage. "One of them, my piano teacher Margaret Pine, changed my life forever by opening up a world of musical possibilities to me."
She then introduced Jeffrey Redding, the 2019 recipient of the Music Educator Award, which recognizes current educators who have made a significant contribution to music education and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining music education in the schools.
Presented annually by the Recording Academy and Grammy Museum, the Music Educator Award is one of the many ways the Grammy organization champions music education and professional development year-round.
