T-Pain, GloRilla, and Kendrick Lamar Honored at 2025 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards

Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) once again celebrated the best in R&B and hip-hop last night at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. The 2025 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards honored established legends and rising talent with a night full of tributes and high-energy performances.

A statement from the company discloses that T-Pain received the BMI President’s Award, the evening’s highest honor. Since joining BMI in 2005, he has collected 28 BMI Awards, three Songwriter of the Year titles, and one Producer of the Year award. While accepting the honor, T-Pain reflected on his career journey, saying, “Every journey has a beginning, a middle and an end…. Don’t let anyone dictate your time or how fast you get to the finish line. Let yourself be your own time measurement.”

Another highlight came when GloRilla was presented with the BMI Impact Award for “leading the way for female hip-hop artists” and her “inspiring talent and vision that is influencing the future of music.” In her acceptance speech, she encouraged emerging artists to “keep your foot on the gas,” adding, “don’t let anyone tell y’all what you can’t do because a lot of people told me what I can’t do.” GloRilla also shared the title of BMI’s R&B/Hip-Hop Songwriter of the Year alongside Mike Dean and Tay Keith.

Performances brought additional energy to the evening. BigXthaPlug opened with “The Largest” and his BMI Award-winning track “Mmhmm,” followed by BossMan Dlow with “Mr Pot Scraper” and “Get In With Me.” The Know Them Now segment spotlighted rising artists including Eli Derby with “Cadillac Dream,” TA Thomas with “Preach,” and Lekan with “Always.”

The award for BMI’s R&B/Hip-Hop Song of the Year went to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” co-written with Sounwave, Ray Charles, and Sean Momberger. The song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 2024 and went on to spend 53 consecutive weeks on the chart, making it the longest-charting rap song in history. Sounwave was also named Producer of the Year, recognized for his work with Lamar as well as collaborations with artists including Beyoncé and Taylor Swift.
