The 64th Annual Grammy Awards has a new date.
Originally, set for January 31st, it was scheduled to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles (as of right now, I refuse to call it Crypto.com Arena), however has since been moved to Sin City.
However, with the packed schedule of The Staples Center in the coming months, it would’ve been impossible
The Grammys will now air live from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 3rd.
CBS and the Recording Academy released a joint statement earlier this month, opting to postpone the ceremony due to COVID-19:
“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual Grammy Awards Show.
The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks.
We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.”
Rumors began circulating in December that postponing the Grammys was being taken into consideration. Last year’s show was one of the first award shows after the long 2020 hiatus due to the surge of COVID-19.
Trevor Noah, who hosted the awards in 2021 was set to host this year again.
Sturgill Simpson received two for his new album Dood and Juanita and Cuttin’ Grass Vol. 1 (Butcher Shoppe Sessions), while Tyler Childers and Billy Strings both secured nominations, as well as Chris Stapleton and The Marfa Tapes trio for Best Country Album.
