Dan + Shay at the 2022 American Music Awards.
Music City was well-represented at the 50th Annual American Music Awards last night (Nov. 20). Hosted by Wayne Brady, the ceremony aired live on ABC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
Dan + Shay took home their seventh career AMA, earning Favorite Country Duo or Group for the fourth consecutive year. The pair also presented Taylor Swift with the Artist of the Year honor. Additionally, Dustin Lynch presented Swift with the AMA for Favorite Music Video alongside Sabrina Carpenter. Breaking her own record with six AMA wins, Swift also earned the awards for Favorite Country Album, Favorite Pop Album, Favorite Female Pop Artist, and Favorite Female Country Artist, making the 40-time winner the most decorated artist in AMAs history. Jimmie Allen and Jessie James Decker were also among the group of presenters. Morgan Wallen scored wins for both Favorite Male Country Artist and Favorite Country Song.
Allen paid tribute to the legendary Loretta Lynn with a brief rendition of her classic hit “Coal Miner’s Daughter” before introducing 17-time AMA winner and all-time Favorite Country Album record-holder Carrie Underwood, who flew over the crowd to the stage on a neon orb while performing “Crazy Angels” from her latest album Denim & Rhinestones. Allen and Lynch also joined Ari Lennox, Yola, Muni Long, Melissa Ethridge, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Puth, and Lionel Richie on stage for a surprise re-creation of the 1986 AMAs performance of “We Are The World.”
