The decline in awards show viewers continues..
The Grammys, like many other popular television award shows, has seen its rating steadily decline in recent years.
However, after Will Smith slapped the hell out of Chris Rock at the Oscars over a week ago, I really thought this might turn the tide for award shows in general, that have hit rock bottom in ratings in recent years.
Nope, I was wrong.
According to Deadline, the Grammy’s matched last year’s all-time low in ratings, with their live broadcast on CBS, and their livestream on Paramount+ delivering a total of only 8.93 million viewers, only slightly better than last year, which saw a total of 8.8 million, the least amount of viewers in Grammy Awards history.
In comparison, 2020’s show saw 18.9 million viewers, and 2019’s saw 19.9 million.
Even though this year’s Grammy Awards brought in top-tier talent, with the likes of Justin Bieber, BTS, Lil Nas X, Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, and Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood and more, they still couldn’t get the ratings back up to par after a dismal 2021.
The Oscars, Critics Choice Awards, and SAG awards have not yet reached their pre-pandemic numbers, but have seen a minimal rise in viewership since 2021.
I mean, I’ll just say it… if Will Smith doesn’t slap Chris Rock at the Oscars, I think 2022 goes all-time low. After the week-long media firestorm the Oscars created, you have to imagine a lot of people tuned in hoping to see some kind of similar fireworks.
Either way, it doesn’t bode well for the awards shows in general.
But hey, at least Chris Stapleton killed it.
He also won Best Country Album:
Miranda Lambert Skips Grammys To Make Surprise Appearance At Her Nashville Bar, Casa Rosa
Miranda Lambert was noticeably absent from the Grammy Awards last night.
Mainly, her presence was missed because she wasn’t there with her Marfa Tapes trio counterparts Jon Randall and Jack Ingram, as they were nominated for Best Country Album (which Chris Stapleton ultimately took home for Starting Over).
Miranda was also nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Elle King for “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home),” which ultimately went to Brothers Osborne for “Younger Me”.
And while she was unable to make the show in Las Vegas this year (the home of her upcoming residency), she did make it out to her bar in Nashville, Casa Rosa, to play her Grammy-nominated song “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” for unsuspecting fans, which was pretty badass of her to do on such a big night in her career:

Some would say I’m in the right place at the right time. I would say I just know the right people at the right time.

Miranda is also gearing up to release her 8th solo studio album, Palomino, at the end of this month on April 29th.
