We can’t get through the entire CMA Awards without just a little bit of controversy, right?
With Luke Bryan taking over hosting duties this year, he took a moment to seemingly jab at Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who tested positive for COVID-19 last week and later revealed that he was unvaccinated, after initially telling the press he was “immunized.”
Luke cracked the joke in an effort to note the CMA’s COVID protocols for the show:
“We’re following all the health protocols to keep everyone safe and it’s so great to be here with all my fellow artists, tested and together.
Or immunized? Who is it? Just playin’!”
Then, the camera immediately panned to Carrie Underwood and her husband, former NHL player Mike Fisher, who recently came out in support of Aaron and his decision to not get a vaccine.
Though Carrie hasn’t publicly commented on any of it, the CMA camera man did not miss a beat, directly panning over to the couple as the joke came out of Luke’s mouth:

Something tells me the producers had that camera angle teed up and ready to go beforehand…
Of course, Twitter had a lot to say about Carrie’s face and the epic side-eye she delivered, clearly unamused by the whole thing:
I love how the cameras turned to Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, and Erik Church after the vaccination joke. Hahah Carrie looked so annoyed. #CMAs #CMAAwards

we’re only ten minutes into the #CMAawards and my favourite part of the show will be Luke Bryan talking about being immunized and then panning to Carrie Underwood after Mike Fisher’s vaccine comments this week

Me when the camera went to @carrieunderwood immediately after @lukebryan asked if the audience was immunized. Her facial expression

Here’s Luke’s entire opening monologue, featuring Carrie’s intense side-eye:
Carrie and Jason Aldean also performed their #1 single, “If I Didn’t Love You.”
