Three Seasons Later, We Need To Stop Calling ‘The Bear’ a Comedy After Those Emmy Nominations

Three Seasons Later, We Need To Stop Calling ‘The Bear’ a Comedy After Those Emmy Nominations

The Bearpicked up a plethora of nominations for the upcoming 2025 Emmy Awards, once again sparking the debate onwhether it's a comedy series. Make no mistake, there are some legitimately funny moments in The Bear, especially where Season 1 is concerned. Who could forget the "Merry Christmas, Lizards" speech that Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) gives to a crowd of nerds in the very first episode? Or the moment where Richie and Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) have an innuendo-laced argument about caulk? However, if you go back and watch The Bear, it starts slowly morphing into a drama, or at the very least should be classified as a "dramedy". It's not only a more accurate description of the tone of The Bear, but switching from comedy awards to drama awards would give other shows a chance to compete where the Hulu/FX series has dominated.
