Telluride Is About to Change the Course of Oscar Season

Telluride Is About to Change the Course of Oscar Season

The 2022 Telluride Film Festival lineup has arrived, and with it, Oscar season has taken flight. For years, the Colorado Rockies have played host to one of the most exclusive fall events in the film industry, where awards season hopefuls hang out with press and industry as well as many Academy members. This edition is no different: With tributes for the likes of Cate Blanchett and Sarah Polley, whose “TÁR” and “Women Talking” are poised to be serious awards contenders, Labor Day weekend is about to set the tone for the months ahead.

And IndieWire will be there to cover it. On this week’s Screen Talk, IndieWire’s Eric Kohn prepares to attend his tenth Telluride and is joined by awards editor Marcus Jones, who will be attending for the first time. (The pair will be joined by another Telluride vet: chief film critic David Ehrlich.)

Ahead, the pair discuss some of the most intriguing aspects of this year’s lineup, which also includes anticipated new films from Sam Mendes and Alejandro G. Iñarritu, and they look at how the festival could speak to broader questions for the Oscar race around the corner.
