The Emmy nominations have been announced and we can all begin to look forward to September, when the awards will be handed out. One of the biggest winners, nomination-wise, has been HBO Max, with the streaming service netting 142 nominations spread out over twenty series, movies, and miniseries. One of the jewels in the streamer's crown over the years has been the Westeros-based Game of Thrones series, which ended its run in May 2019. The epic series was succeeded by its prequel, House of the Dragon in 2022, and just two seasons in, the prequel has broken a franchise streak that has stood for 14 years. The original series has earned itself a place in Emmy history, with a total of 59 awards from 164 nominations. This makes it one of the most successful TV shows the awards have ever seen.
