After 30 Years, Star Trek Just Quietly Rewrote a Classic ‘Voyager’ Episode

Star Trek: Starfleet Academyhas a cast packed with new characters and fan-favorites from across Trek lore, and one of the biggest familiar faces is The Doctor (Robert Picardo), the medical hologram who first appeared in Star Trek: Voyager. While the 32nd century hasn't softened his rougher edges, the Doctor finds new purpose while teaching the current class of Starfleet graduates. That purpose took a quietly tragic turn in this week's episode, "The Life of the Stars." When Sam (Kerrice Brooks) starts to experience glitches that threaten to end her life, the Doctor offers to spend time with her on her home planet of Kasq so that he can save her.
