For all intents and purposes, The Silence of the Lambsis a horror story. Sure, at its core, the movie is a psychological thriller led by both Best Actress Award winner Jodie Foster, and Best Actor Award winner Anthony Hopkins. Whether it's in regard to film, television, music, or otherwise, genres are meant to be fluid. But in the eyes of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, horror is horror. 35 years later, the Jonathan Demme classic remains the only horror film to win an Oscar for the prestigious Best Picture Award. As unbelievable as that statistic sounds, a mere eight horror films have ever even been nominated in the category.
