If you look over the history of Best Picture winners at the Academy Awards (going back almost 100 years, at this point), you might start to pick up that distinct smell of Oscar bait. But of course you will. These are the Oscars, and people want to win them. Sometimes, that involves making crowd-pleasers, which isn't inherently a bad thing, or at least, classics like Rocky, The Sting, and Ben-Hur aren’t bad things/movies.
