Tom Hanks has spoken out about his daughter Elizabeth Ann Hanks' memoir in which she reportedly writes about her troubled childhood.
At a red carpet event, the Hollywood star, 68, was asked how "proud" he was of his daughter, 43, who goes by E.A., after writing her book The 10: A Memoir of Family and the Open Road.
"It's a pride, because I think, she shares it with me... She's very open about what the process is," Hanks told Access Hollywood.

"I'm not surprised that my daughter had the wherewithal as well as the curiosity as well as, I'm going to say, perhaps shoot-herself-in-the-foot kind of wherewithal in order to examine this thing that I think she was incredibly honest about," he added.
"We all come from checkered, cracked lives, all of us. Despite the fact that part of it would seem as though she worked for some international well-known firm with a copyrighted last name."
He added that Elizabeth has a "literate mind" and he's glad he can say that.

"She knows that and she leans into absolutely everything of it.
"I think anybody who does that is a bold journalistic, literate mind and I'm just thrilled I can say the same thing about my daughter."
Hanks is father to Elizabeth Ann and son Colin, 47, who he welcomed with late ex-wife Samantha Lewes, whose real name was Susan Dillingham.
He shares sons Chet, 34, and Truman Hanks, 29, with actress wife Rita Wilson.
In her book, E.A. reportedly alleged her late mother physically abused her.

"One night, her emotional violence became physical violence, and in the aftermath I moved to Los Angeles, right smack in the middle of the seventh grade," E.A. reportedly wrote in the book.
She also reportedly alleged her undiagnosed late mother suffered bipolar disorder.
