TN CM Stalin Congratulates Kamal Haasan for Joining The Oscar Academy Panel

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate Kamal Haasan’s invitation to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

“My heartfelt congratulations to my dear friend and artist, Mr Kamal Haasan, who has received an invitation to join the committee for the Oscar Awards, considered the pinnacle of recognition in the global film industry! This is a long-overdue acknowledgment of the profound impact you have had on the film industry, transcending language and national boundaries. May many more heights seek you out! (Sic - Translated from Tamil)” Stalin wrote.

Haasan’s Gratitude and Reflections

Upon receiving Stalin’s message, Kamal Haasan expressed his deep appreciation. “If the invite from the Academy was a joy, then the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s congratulatory message has added to it,” he said, acknowledging the special bond he shares with the state’s leadership and its people.

The Academy extended invitations to 534 distinguished film professionals worldwide, recognising their outstanding contributions to cinema.

Haasan becomes only the second South Indian actor ever to receive this honour—the first was Suriya in 2022. This year’s intake also features a quartet of Indian film professionals: casting director Karan Mally, cinematographer Ranabir Das, costume designer Maxima Basu and documentary filmmaker Smriti Mundhra. Their inclusion mirrors the Academy’s ongoing drive to broaden its global footprint and recognise diverse perspectives.
