Today, on Rajesh Khanna’s birth anniversary, we look back at one of his most memorable moments at the 35th Filmfare Awards in 1988. The award recognized his extraordinary 25-year contribution to Indian cinema, celebrating a career that had defined an era of Bollywood.
In his heartfelt speech, Rajesh Khanna said, “I had thought that Dimple would say, 'Listen, this award is for you,' but that didn’t happen. I am truly grateful to God and to everyone at Filmfare, from United Producers to my entire film industry fraternity, who helped me reach my audience. I salute the people of this country, I salute this audience, and I thank them.”
Rajesh Khanna won several other Filmfare Awards throughout his career, including three for Best Actor: in 1971 for Sachaa Jhutha in 1972 for Anand, and in 1975 for Avishkaar. He was also honoured with a Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, cementing his status as a true Bollywood legend.
