Teyana Taylor Details Chemistry With ‘One Battle’ Costar Leonardo DiCaprio

Teyana Taylor is reflecting on her chemistry with One Battle After Another costar Leonardo DiCaprio.

“I mean, that’s my brother, that’s my family, you know?” Taylor, 35, exclusively told Us Weekly at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, on Sunday, January 4. “So, it’s never hard working with family and people that you love.”

Taylor was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in One Battle After Another, competing against Ariana Grande, Amy Madigan, Wunmi Mosaku, Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas. Madigan, 75, ultimately took home the award for her work in Weapons.

Meanwhile, DiCaprio, 51, was nominated for Best Actor alongside Timothée Chalamet, Joel Edgerton, Ethan Hawke, Michael B. Jordan and Wagner Moura. Chalamet, 30, won the accolade for his turn in Marty Supreme.

One Battle After Another did take home a major win, though, as the movie was crowned Best Picture over Bugonia, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Jay Kelly, Marty Supreme, Sentimental Value, Sinners, Train Dreams and Wicked: For Good. Director Paul Thomas Anderson also won Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

“Let’s go!” Taylor shouted to the audience as she took the stage with Anderson, 55, and her costars following the Best Picture win.

During his acceptance speech, Anderson got emotional as he thanked everyone involved in the movie.

“Does anybody have anything that they want to say, to save me?” he asked the cast on stage. “Because, OK, I’d say this is the best time I ever had making a movie. And I feel like it shows it’s just a testament to being with people that you love. Because, as somebody said earlier, this is fine and this is fun, but it really is about the people that you work with — that’s all that there is at the end of the day.”

In One Battle After Another, DiCaprio plays Bob, a “washed-up revolutionary” who exists “in a state of stoned paranoia” and survives “off-grid” with daughter Willa (Chase Infiniti), according to the synopsis. Taylor plays Perfidia, Willa’s mother and Bob’s partner.

Taylor previously gushed about her instant friendship with DiCaprio in a September 2025 interview with The New York Times, revealing they met years before their film.

“Funny thing: Me and Leo actually met at Diana Ross’ birthday party some years back and instantly became best buds,” the actress told the outlet. “That’s my wingman, my partner in crime!”

DiCaprio added, “I’ve known Teyana for a long time.”

The Titanic star also said that his friendship with Taylor is what led her to be cast in One Battle After Another.

“Paul and I were talking about who would play this lightning rod of a character that was a radical but also somebody that was able to manipulate,” he explained. “The echoes of her character reverberate throughout the entire movie, and every character is emotionally scarred by Perfidia. So we knew we needed to get somebody that could be not only bold and outspoken, but bring that improvisational talent of truth in the moment.”

DiCaprio said of Taylor, “She just embodied that character in a way that I don’t think anyone else could. We’re all left as carnage after she comes onscreen, picking up the pieces of our lives.”
