Sydney Roosters player Angus Crichton announces his engagement to partner Chloe Esegbona after a street proposal in Manchester

NRL star Angus Crichton is engaged!

The Sydney Roosters player, 28, announced he popped the question to partner Chloe Esegbona in Manchester, UK.

A smitten Crichton dropped to one knee outside a hotel, with the sports star sharing video and images from the street proposal with fans and followers on Instagram. 

"Can not wait to make you my wife @chloe_esegbona," Crichton sweetly wrote in the caption.

"You brighten up every room that you walk in and make me a better man."

Revealing the proposal took place last week, he added: "27.11.24 - luckiest guy in the world - forever love #chloecrit

Crichton presented his future wife-to-be with a stunning diamond engagement ring that she flashed in a photo he shared from their celebrations after the proposal.

In the video of the proposal, Crichton drops down to one knee as Esegbona covers her mouth in shock and exclaims, "oh my god!"

"Will you marry me?" he asks before the pair share a kiss while people walk past.

"Congrats guys <3," a comment from the Sydney Rooster's official Instagram page reads underneath the announcement post. 

Roosters captain James Tedesco wrote: "How good! Congrats guys <3."

Crichton's teammate Victor Radley added: "My man, congrats <3."

Just a week ago, before the engagement, Crichton shared a tribute post to his partner for her birthday.

Sharing pictures of their time together over the years and of their travels, he wrote: "Happy Birthday to the sweetest girl in the world, count my blessings every day that our paths crossed, I love you doll 💙."

They recently attended the Dally M Awards together in October, with Crichton writing on one post: "Dally M with my girl."

"We all know I won the real prize @chloe_esegbona thanks for having my back over the past 2 years, you the real MVP and wouldn't have been up there without you," he wrote.

The engagement is some good news for Crichton, who has been open about his battle with mental health in the past.

He recently spoke about his mental health and bipolar disorder diagnosis to The Sydney Morning Herald.

He was previously admitted to a psychiatric facility in France by police.

"It's called a manic episode," he told the publication.

"Bringing it up is a bit of a risk, to rehash old wounds, but if I can verbalise it in a way that can not only help people but explain to people what I went through and where I am now, that will be a positive outcome for me," he said.

"But it does feel good to give some air and tell people my story."
