Why simply walk into a room when you can descend from the ceiling or ride in on a motorcycle? At least, that's along the lines of what we imagine Tom Cruise says.
The Hollywood actor, 62, has done everything from skydiving to scaling buildings.
But in his latest wild stunt in London, the actor emerged in an unlikely place.

In a video circulating on social media, pedestrians spotted something you don't expect to see while passing the BFI Imax cinema.
There was small speck in the distance on the roof of the movie theatre.
Once zoomed in it was revealed to be a person standing on top of the building. But not just any person – Mr. Tom Cruise himself.
While we're not quite sure how he got there – or even how long we was there for – the stunt appears to tie in with his latest Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning instalment, which had an ad on the IMAX building.

So, without further adieu, here's all the other wild ways Cruise has made headlines.

Abseiling from the roof at the Olympics
The star surprised millions watching around the world when cameras revealed he was standing atop of the Stade de France for the Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony.
Strapped into a harness, the actor then descended from the roof of the stadium right down to the ground among the crowd.
The stunt didn't stop there, though.

Cruise then grabbed the Olympic flag and placed it on the back of a motorcycle, which he rode through the stadium and down the streets of Paris.
Cruise later took to social media to share a photo of him before he pulled off the stunt.
The actor took a selfie standing on the stadium roof.
"Thank you, Paris! Now off to LA," he wrote on Instagram.

When he shared a special message while falling from a plane
Rather than just standing in front of a camera to film a message, Cruise took the opportunity to thank fans for the success of his film Top Gun: Maverick while quite literally falling out of a plane.
While busy filming a stunt on the set of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning parts one and two in South Africa, the actor recorded a video message from up in the sky.

In the video posted to YouTube, Cruise was sat up in a plane with his director and screenwriter, Christopher McQuarrie.
"Thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick, and as always, thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honour of a lifetime," Cruise said as he skydived.

He drove a motorcycle off a cliff
Cruise performed an incredible death-defying stunt in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.
The actor drove a motorcycle off a cliff before parachuting to the bottom of a valley.
At the film's Australian premiere in Sydney, he spoke to 9Honey Celebrity about pulling off the stunt – and what was going through his head.

"I was thinking about a lot of things," he said on the red carpet.
"First of all, I was thinking of performance, because, you see me at the beginning, I have to act, but I'm also thinking about the helicopter that's going down, the speed that I have to travel down that ramp."

Scaled the world's tallest building
By now, Cruise has done just about everything in the Mission: Impossible franchise.

For the 2011 instalment, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the star went even grander when he scaled the world's tallest building in a scene.
Cruise climbed the outside of Dubai's Burj Khalifa building, which is 828 metres.

There was one Mission: Impossible stunt that had Cruise thinking: "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea."
For the franchise's 2015 instalment, Rogue Nation, Cruise hang off the side of plane.
The actor was secured to the plane with a harness and wire as it took off.
Cruise recalled doing the stunt, which took him eight takes to perfect, on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2015.

"Then the first take, we're going down the runway and it was everything to keep my feet onto the steps because I was almost slapped against the fuselage, going down the runway we were going so fast," he recalled.
The actor said it was "a little intense".
"There's that moment I'm there going, 'Oh, maybe this wasn't such a good idea. It's too late now! I can't tell everyone, I have the whole crew on the plane.'"
Jumped between buildings – but not quite to plan
Not all of the star's stunts go exactly to plan.
Back in 2018 during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Cruise spoke about how he ended up sustaining an injury on the set of Mission: Impossible - Fallout that put the production on hold.

The star was jumping between buildings on a rooftop in London.
The plan was that he hits the side of the wall and has to pull himself up over it. But the actor ended up hitting his foot at a wrong angle against the wall and broke his ankle.
"I didn't want to do it again. I knew instantly it was broken," Cruise said.

When he jumped on Oprah's couch
OK, we admit for this one he didn't have to lift his feet too far off the ground, but he made headlines nonetheless.
One of the wildest and most memorable Cruise moments was back in 2005 during his appearance on Oprah Winfrey's talk show.

The actor quite literally jumped for show while gushing about his love for then-girlfriend, Katie Holmes.
"I'm in love!" Cruise proclaimed on the show while dashing around the room.
"I've never seen you behave this way before, have you ever felt this way before?" Winfrey asked the actor.
Cruise then jumped on the couch – a moment that has gone down in pop-culture history.
