Pink's mid-concert tribute to Sinead O'Connor leaves fans in tears

Tributes to singer-songwriter Sinead O'Connor have been flowing since the news of her death broke yesterday.

Now, music powerhouse Pinkhonoured the late star during the first US show of her Summer Carnival tour in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Despite her shows often running on a tight schedule, the rock star paused her set to perform O'Connor's hit Nothing Compares 2 U with Brandi Carlile.

"I asked her if she would come out here and sing this song with me," Pink said of Carlile, who was quick to join her on stage. "She said yes."

Fans were quick to share their responses to the powerful performance on social media.

"Pink just paid tribute to Sinead O'Connor and it was so beautiful, it made me cry," one fan tweeted alongside clips of the performance.

"Thank you to these two incredibly beautiful talented ladies for this stunning emotional tribute to Sinead O'Connor," another wrote.

"Sinead you were so loved rest in peace songbird."

Another comment read, "What a beautiful impromptu tribute".

O'Connor's death was announced yesterday in a statement provided to RTE by the singer's family.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad," it read.

"Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."

The singer's cause of death has not been revealed, however police have labelled her death "not suspicious".

O'Connor was found "unresponsive" and "pronounced dead at the scene" at 11.18am (8.18pm AEST) on Wednesday.

Her death came as a shock to many fellow musicians and fans who were anticipating more music from the star after she announced a potentially tour only two weeks prior.

O'Connor had taken to her Facebook to announce her plans to return to London, release new music and potentially tour.

"Hi All, recently moved back to London after 23 years absence. Very happy to be home :) Soon finishing my album. Release early next year :) Hopefully Touring Australia and New Zealand toward end 2024. Europe, USA and other territories beginning early 2025 :)," she wrote on Facebook.

O'Connor is survived by her son Jake, a daughter, Róisín, from a relationship with the journalist John Waters, a son, Yeshua, from a relationship with Frank Bonadio, and a grandchild.
