Olympia Valance reveals the surprising career path she and AFL star husband Thomas Bellchambers don't want their son to take

Former Neighbours star Olympia Valance and husband Thomas Bellchambers are excitedly awaiting the birth of their firstborn son.

And while it's way too early to know what their son will one day grow up to be, one thing is for sure – the pair aren't too keen on him following in his father's AFL-star footsteps when he's older.

Talking exclusively to 9honey Celebrity, pregnant Valance, 31, says they worry about high-contact sports for their child after Bellchambers' experience in the game.

"Our baby can do whatever they want, but in saying that, I look at my husband... from years of football, he's had 15 operations. I said to Thomas, 'I don't want him playing football' and he's like, 'I agree,'" Valance explains.

"Let's do golf, tennis, cricket even, but high-contact sports just ruin your body."

She jokes: "We'll say, 'No, no football,' but he'll probably end up being a really tall amazing footballer."

"Obviously the arts is my world, but I'm just happy if my baby's happy!" she adds.

Former Essendon player Bellchambers announced his retirement in September 2020.

Two years later, he and the actress, who is the younger sister of Holly Candy, tied the knot in a stunning ceremony at The Farm Daylesford in Victoria.

Speaking about how she can't wait to see Bellchambers, 35, as a dad, Valance says: "He's so excited."

"When we first met, in the first three months of dating, that was the question he asked, he was like, 'Do you want babies?' I was like, 'Yes'.

"Family is incredibly important to him and to me too, he's going to be the best dad in the world and to see a tiny baby in his arms, that's what I can't wait to see."

But a name for their tiny tot is the harder task, as it has not yet been decided upon.

Valance, who is a Robe Haircare ambassador, says her mother wants a strong Greek name to recognise their Greek heritage.

"Thomas and I had 100 per cent agreed on a girl's name, but we cannot for the life of us agree on a boys name!" Valance says.

"This baby is going to be born with no name [laughs]. My mum has thoughts about having a strong Greek name."

She jokingly adds: "If I don't name this boy a Greek name, she's going to kill me! We can't agree, they're all ethnic-sounding!"
