Like mother, like daughter! As stars arrived at the 2025 Emmy Awards, Melissa Rivers had her fashion radar fully activated.
A red carpet expert in her own right — and daughter of the late Joan Rivers — brought a blend of high-style appreciation and cheeky critique while breaking down celebrity outfits at the star-studded affair in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly.
Of course, Melissa not only shared her fashion favorites, but she also revealed which looks she felt missed the mark at the event, which took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 14.
Melissa tells Us that a few A-listers had standout looks, including Leslie Bibb, who wore Armani Privé, as well as Cate Blanchett in her Armani Privé velvet jumpsuit and Molly Gordon in her striped black and white Armani gown. She also raves over Katherine LaNasa‘s custom, strapless ceil blue number from Jason Wu as well as Selena Gomez‘s red Louis Vuitton gown.
As for the stars who wore looks that didn’t quite land, she reveals to Us that Jenna Ortega, who turned heads in a jewel-encrusted Givenchy by Sarah Burton ensemble, made her list, explaining, “The dress looks awesome in the ads with a 5-foot-10 model, but not so good on us shorties.”

Melissa also wasn’t feeling Sarah Paulson’s dramatic feathered dress from Marc Jacobs or Parker Posey’s Valentino gown, which featured a sheer cropped cape with fur, billowing sleeves and a ruffled skirt.
The former Fashion Police star notes that she spotted two popular fads taking over the red carpet — colors and designers.
“Selena Gomez nailed the red. Cate Blanchett nailed the black, but the biggest trend was Armani, Armani, Armani. Louis Vuitton was a close second,” she adds.

Melissa even sounds off about the suavely-dressed guys at the event, praising James Marsden, “who showed men how to properly wear a white dinner jacket.”
“Sterling K. Brown always has an incredible sense of style,” she tells Us. “As much as I love all the men pushing the fashion envelope, I still am a sucker for the classics.”
