Kyle Sandilands reveals theory about why 'rival' Dave Hughes replaced him at the 2023 Logie Awards

Kyle Sandilands had some things to say about his radio rival Dave Hughes replacing him to present at the 2023 Logie Awards.

The radio host was set to present at the ceremony on Sunday night alongside his 11-month-old son Otto but pulled out at the last minute due to scheduling issues.

On the Kyle and Jackie O Show this morning, Sandilands, 52, shared a theory that the decision to have 'Hughesy' fill in was personal.

His radio co-host Jackie 'O' Henderson argued that bringing on Hughes was not the producers trying to get revenge.

"I  think they were just trying to replace you in time," she added in reference to Sandilands pulling out of his presenting duties close to the show.

Sandilands continued to be adamant about his point, firmly telling Henderson "I feel that it was."

"You don't have me come and then bring in Hughesy," he said.

Sandilands then softened on his stance, revealing he thought the comedian was "quite funny" during his time on the Logies stage.

KIIS 106.5 host Sandilands has had a longstanding feud with Hughes in the media that was sparked at the 2007 Logie Awards.

The 2DayFM host called the radio personality a "massive d---head" which then prompted Sandilands to threaten to punch Hughes in the throat.

Following the controversy, Hughes 'apologised' to Sandilands on his Nova FM podcast.

"What I want to say to Kyle is don't shoot the messenger mate," he said.

"I am sorry. I'm sorry that you're a massive d---head. It's not my fault though," he added.

Hughes previously told Radio Today that they had "buried" the feud years ago.

However, during a 2021 segment of the Kyle and Jackie O Show, Sandilands took a jab at his radio rival, claiming that his new 2DayFM show was "no good."

Hughes being chosen to replace Sandilands came after the KIIS FM star revealed on Friday that he would not be attending the Logies.

'I've had to pull the pin,' Sandilands said on The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

Sandilands revealed that the decision boiled down to been slated to present the award with his son.

He shared that after the Logies couldn't guarantee his slot would be before 9pm, he had to bail.

'I've got a baby, I can't be waiting around with a baby,' Sandilands shared.

While Sandilands did not make an appearance at the Logies this year, his radio co-host Henderson made quick the show.

Henderson arrived to work this morning in her Logies dress from the night before after attending the award show's after party.
