Julianne Moore has spoken out in 'shock' and is 'saddened' after her first children's book has been banned – nearly two decades after it came out.
In 2007, the movie star released her semi-autobiographical book called Freckleface Strawberry, which follows a girl who wants to get rid of her freckles but ends up learning to accept them.
Years on from its release, the book is one of the titles US President Donald Trump's administration has reportedly banned from schools run by the Department of Defense.

Addressing the decision in a lengthy Instagram post on Monday morning (local time), Moore said it was a "great shock for me to learn".
The actress said she wrote the book "for my children and for other kids to remind them that we all struggle, but are united by our humanity and our community."
"I am particularly stunned because I am a proud graduate of Frankfurt American High School a #DOD school that once operated in Frankfurt, Germany," she continued.

"And I can't help but wonder what is so controversial about this picture book that cause it to be banned by the US Government.

Moore concluded her thoughts by expressing she was "truly saddened" by the move and "never thought I would see this in a country where freedom of speech."
The post was inundated with comments from many stars, including Halley Berry, model Helena Christensen, Ellen Pompeo and Michelle Phieffer, who expressed confusion.
"Wow , truly shocked about this ??? Literally why??" actress Chloë Grace Moretz, who starred in the 2013 Carrie adaptation with Moore commented.
"I DO NOT UNDERSTAND 😳- I have read this book !! It's so uplifting and inspiring- nothing to ban ??? I am so confused," The Real Housewives of New York City star Jenna Lyons wrote.
Following her debut novel in 2007, Moore has come out with several other books as part of her Freckleface Strawberry series.

The star is best known for her work as an actress, starring in the likes of Still Alice, Hannibal, Boogie Nights, The Hunger Games movies and The Big Lebowski.
Her most recent role was in the 2024 film The Room Next Door with Tilda Swinton.
