Johnny Depp's rep responds to reports Disney is luring actor back to Pirates of the Caribbean franchise with $433 million deal

Pirates of the Caribbean fans woke this morning to various reports Disney want to lure Johnny Depp back to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise by dangling a staggering $US301 million deal ($433 million).

The hope is for Depp to reprise his beloved character Captain Jack Sparrow, a role he played in all five movies until he was reportedly dropped by Disney in 2018 amid allegations of domestic violence by ex-wife Amber Heard.

According to online news site PopTopic, Disney approached the actor with the offer ahead of his mammoth defamation win against the Aquaman star on June 1.

"Disney are very interested in patching up their relationship with Johnny Depp," a source claimed to the outlet. "They reached out to the actor prior to his defamation trial against Amber Heard and asked whether he would be interested in returning for another Pirates film or two."

But fans of the franchise shouldn't hold their breath as a spokesperson for the actor has since rubbished the claims.

"This is made up," Depp's rep told NBC News.

This sentiment echos that of Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who is currently working on two more films for the franchise. When asked by The Sunday Times in May if Depp would be making a return, the Hollywood heavyweight said: "Not at this point. The future is yet to be decided."

Likewise, during Depp's defamation trial with Heard, the actor expressed his disappointment over being booted from the films and said he had no interest in returning to the franchise as he felt "betrayed" by Disney.

"Having added much of myself, much of my own rewriting, the dialogue, the scenes, the jokes, I didn't quite understand how after that long relationship and quite a successful relationship with Disney that… suddenly I was guilty until proven innocent," Depp told the jury.
