The 4th Blue Dragon Series Awards was held on July 18th at the Paradise City Hotel in Jung-gu, Incheon. Jun Hyun Moo and YoonA returned as hosts for the fourth consecutive year. This year's Daesang, the grand prize, was awarded to Netflix's original series When Life Gives You Tangerines, with IU achieving a significant victory in the acting category. The prestigious event was graced by the presence of numerous A-list celebrities, including Park Bo Gum, Cha Tae Hyun, Lee Joon Young, Hyeri, Park Eun Bin, and many others. The competition was quite intense this year, reflecting the growing influence of South Korea's OTT culture, as many major releases now skip local broadcasters in favour of direct distribution on global platforms.
IU, also known as Lee Ji Eun, received the Best Actor award for her performance in When Life Gives You Tangerines, and Yeom Hye Ran was honoured with the Best Supporting Actor award, marking two of the most significant recognitions of the evening. While accepting the award, IU said, “This will likely remain the proudest work of my life. It made me feel more alive and expressive than ever. To all the Aesoons who lived their lives vividly in a world that told us to stay blurry, and to every Geummyeong who planted their dreams with boldness, I dedicate my respect and gratitude.” Yeom, who played Gwang Rye in the show, said, “I’ve never received this much support and praise in my life. It’s overwhelming. I thank the writer and director for giving me a once-in-a-lifetime project.”
Having portrayed a role that, while limited, was undeniably impactful, Park Bo Gum accepted the award on behalf of the K-drama, which was recognized as the Best Show. He said, “I sincerely thank the crew who worked hard through all four seasons. It was an honour to portray Gwan Sik. This was made possible thanks to the child actors and senior actor Park Hae Joon.”
"The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call," a Netflix original, also received critical acclaim, winning the award for Best Drama. Ju Ji-hoon was recognized with the Best Actor award for his performance, and Choo Young-woo received the Best New Actor award for his portrayal of Dr. Yang. Ju Ji-hoon said, “Bringing a comic book to life is no easy feat. Thanks to everyone who helped make it realistic, especially my comrade, Director Lee Do Yoon.”
