Kelly Osbourne was just 17 when The Osbournes first aired on TV.
While her father Ozzy was already a well-known musician, the show introduced him to a new audience, and made stars out of Kelly, her younger brother Jack, and mother Sharon.
But the show, which was one of the first ever celebrity-driven reality TV shows, also had its downsides, with Kelly saying it had an adverse affect on her mental health.

Born into rock royalty
Kelly Osbourne was born on October 27, 1984, in London, to father Ozzy, who rose to fame as the lead singer of rock band Black Sabbath, and his second wife Sharon.
She was the second of their three children. She has an older sister, Aimée, who famously refused to be part of the show, despite living at home when it was filmed, and younger brother Jack.
She attended private schools in England but also spent much of her childhood on the road touring with her father after her mother launched Ozzfest to revive his career.
TV fame
In 2000, MTV sent a crew to the LA mansion the 'Prince of Darkness' shared with his family to film an episode of its new show, Cribs, which featured tours of celebrity homes.

The Cribs episode formed the basis of a reality TV show about the Osbourne family.
The Osbournes premiered on March 5, 2002, and was an instant hit.
Kelly, who was just 17 when the show first aired, became a fan favourite.
The show also brought many other opportunities, including a record contract.

From TV screens to the music charts
Her debut album, Shut Up, was released in 2002. The first song was a cover of Madonna's Papa Don't Preach, which she sang at the MTV Movie Awards.
She was the support act for Robbie Williams when he performed a series of shows in Knebworth, England, in 2003.
She also tried her hand at acting, with a stint in the 2004 US series Life as we Know It.

That year, she launched her own clothing range, Stiletto Killers, followed by a more sophisticated line, SK Collection.
A second album followed in 2005.
Her rise to fame was not all smooth sailing, as she revealed during a 2023 episode of The Osbournes Podcast.
"Imagine having to relive every conversation you've ever had throughout a 24-hour period or six-month period, and then all of a sudden people are judging everything you've said," she said.

"You're just like, 'Wait, I just thought I was having a normal conversation, now this person hates me.' It's crazy. It just made me so insecure."
Her father said on the same episode, the show generated an 'unbelievable' level of fame for his two children, which came at a cost.
"The kids paid for it. They all ended up doing drugs. Jack got clean and sober on that show. Kelly messed up on that show," he said.
'A heavy burden to bear'
In April 2004, Osbourne entered the Malibu rehab facility Promises after becoming addicted to painkillers.
She had another stint in a drug treatment centre the following year, and spent a month in rehab in 2009.
She told US in 2024 she was lucky to have survived the period.
"There was a time where everyone around me was dying and OD'ing or something horrible," she said.

"It wasn't until I turned about 33 that I sat back and was like, 'I need to work on me. I need to figure this out because it will be me next.'
"There are only three places you end up when you're an addict: jails, institutions or death.
"I was really f---ing lucky that I only ended up in the institutions."
She told US last year, "I used to carry around the shame of being an addict everywhere with me, and it was a heavy burden to bear.
"You feel like such a loser when you're in it. I never did drugs because I wanted to party. I did drugs because I wanted to numb myself."

Other projects
In the meantime, her career continued to soar. She worked as an actress, appearing in two Hollywood films in 2012.
She was one of 16 celebrities in the 2009 season of the US version of Dancing with the Stars, eventually coming third.
One of her best known roles was co-host of Fashion Police along with Melissa Rivers and comedian Joan Rivers, who died in 2014.
She told US last year it was the best job she ever had.

"Joan and I loved each other. She became my mentor, my best friend. We spoke every day, and that was a huge, huge loss for me. I finally became myself on Fashion Police."
In 2015, she became a judge on Australia's Got Talent.
Four years later, she appeared in the US version of The Masked Singer as Ladybug.
Relationships and motherhood
Osbourne and her then-boyfriend, Matty Derham of the band Fields, held a wedding ceremony during a music festival in Ireland in 2006, but it was later revealed it was not legal.
In 2009, she became engaged to model Luke Worrall but they broke up the following year after he had an affair.
In 2013, she became engaged to chef Matthew Mosshart but they called off the engagement the next year.

Osbourne had known Slipknot band member Sid Wilson since they met at Ozzfest in 1999 when she was just 13 and he was in her 20s.
They later became friends and started to hang out around 2020 but Osbourne said she didn't realise at first he liked her romantically.
They began dating but only went public in January 2022, just months before they revealed she was expecting.
Son, Sidney, was born later that year, with her mum revealing the news on The Talk.
She told US last year, "I truly believe my baby saved me and made me a whole human. I don't think I knew what love was before having a baby.

"I don't think I had purpose. I went from thing to thing to thing, and this level of self-hate and self-doubt that I used to have would just take me out."
Body image struggles
Osbourne's weight has been the focus of attention throughout her career and this caused her to have body image problems.
"I didn't used to be able to look at myself in the mirror," she told US last year.
"I was the kind of girl who showered with the lights off because I didn't want to look at my body.
In 2020, she announced she had lost 38 kilograms after undergoing gastric sleeve surgery.

"I had surgery; I don't give a f--- what anyone has to say," she told the Hollywood Raw podcast.
"I will never ever ever lie about it, ever. It is the best thing I have ever done."
In a 2024 interview with Extra, she discussed the rumours she used the weight loss drug Ozempic to slim down.
"I know everybody thinks I took Ozempic. I did not take Ozempic. I don't know where that came from," she said.
Instead, she said her rapid weight loss came after she cut out sugar and carbohydrates because she suffered gestational diabetes while pregnant and needed to lose weight after the birth of her son or risk getting type 2 diabetes.

However, she said last year on The Osbournes Podcast she supported those who used the drug to shed kilos.
Osbourne has also addressed claims she has undergone plastic surgery.
She told US last year "everybody thinks I've had f----ing plastic surgery."
"I had Botox... but I've never done filler. My face changed shape when I lost weight."
She told Extra she used non-invasive treatments to sculpt and tighten her face and body after her weight loss.

Family ties
Osbourne is extremely close to her brother Jack, mum Sharon and father Ozzy, who is battling Parkinson's disease.
All were on hand to help her celebrate her 40th birthday with a star-studded party in November.
She told US her parents "have been fighting in my corner for my entire life" and were instrumental in getting her into rehab.
However, she revealed on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast in 2021 she and older sister Aimée "don't talk."
"We're just really different. She doesn't understand me. I don't understand her."

Life now
Osbourne told US she was "so grateful for every mistake I made, for every lesson learned, for all of it. I have such an incredible life."
The star lives in the US but plans to relocate to the UK before Sidney starts school.
She has a new show coming out this year and plans to launch new businesses, including a clothing line and non-alcoholic champagne.
Osbourne has a reported net worth of about AU$25 million.
