Halle Berry took over for Will Smith at the 2023 Oscars.
Typically, the previous year’s award acting winner returns to the Oscars to present the opposite category – Best Actor for Best Actress, and so on. However, since Will has been banned from the awards, Halle stepped in and took over.
Joining Jessica Chastain on stage, the two former Best Actress winners presented both the Best Actor and Best Actress together.
“It’s gonna be a moment when I walk out with her. It’s gonna be a moment,” Halle shared with ET ahead of the ceremony, before talking about what would happen if Michelle Yeoh won.
Michelle did indeed win, becoming the first Asian to win the Best Actress category, much like Halle has been the only Black woman to win the honor as well.
“And if she does, I get to give her that,” Halle shared. “If I do, I’ll be a bigger mess than she is. Watch for it.”
