Jerrod Carmichael made it kind of awkward for the stars of Top Gun: Maverick when they walked on stage at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards.
The 35-year-old comedian hosted the show and introduced actors Glen Powell and Jay Ellis to the stage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Tuesday night (January 10) in Beverly Hills, Calif.
While introducing the guys, Jerrod made a dig at their Top Gun: Maverick co-star Tom Cruise and his ties to Scientology.

“Hey guys, backstage I found these three Golden Globe awards that Tom Cruise returned. Look, I’m just the host briefly, but I have a pitch,” Jerrod said.
He continued, “I think, maybe, we take these three things and exchange them for the safe return of Shelly Miscavige?”
For those who don’t know, Tom returned his three Golden Globes to the HFPA amid the organization’s controversy surrounding the lack of diversity.
Shelly Miscavige is the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige who hasn’t been seen in public since August 2007. She has been missing for more than 15 years.
