One of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's most popular films, Devdas, completes 19 years at the movies today. The tragic romantic drama starred actors Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles as Devdas, Chandramukhi and Parvati respectively. Based on the iconic novel by noted Bengali writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, SLB's Devdas was an astounding commercial success that year and won numerous awards including a record-breaking 11 Filmfare Awards and five National Film Awards. On the film's 19th anniversary, Madhuri Dixit has shared a post celebrating the movie.
"Reminiscing some great and happy memories from the sets of Devdas. Even 19 years later it all feels so fresh! Thank you Sanjay for sharing these. Will Cherish these forever! Here’s our ode to #DilipKumar, just like #Devdas, you will continue to live on… forever! #19YearsOfDevdas," she wrote on social media, alluding to an earlier adaptation of Devdas that starred the late great Dilip Kumar. At the 48th Filmfare Awards, both Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit had won in their respective categories - Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) and Best Supporting Actress.
