The Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey and Harshvardhan Rane starrer Haseen Dillruba opened to mixed reviews. While many enjoyed the romantic thriller for its pulp fiction-esque nature, others have criticised it for reasons ranging from glorification of toxic masculinity to plagiarism. Both Taapsee Pannu and writer Kanika Dhillon have been vocal in their disdain for the trolls and the reviews that have allegedly made personal remarks. However, amidst all this, Vikrant Massey has been praised highly for his performance in the film where he undergoes a complete character change after certain incidents unfold. However, the actor has dismissed compliments that have singled him out as the film's best performer and said that both Taapsee and Harshvardhan have done a good job.
"I would refrain from giving credence to what people are saying about Taapsee, Harshvardhan or the film. Because what you see me do is a result of what others have done. I would disagree with everyone who says it was not a nice film. I think it a very good film. I think Taapsee and Harshvardhan have done a great job. I don't know if my opinion counts, but I would disagree if people say I was the only good thing in the film. Nobody makes a film all by themselves; it's a proper team work. Amit Trivedi has done a great job. My DOP has done a great job. Taapsee and my other co-actors have done a great job. Everybody has," Vikrant Massey told an entertainment portal.
"If you think I have done a great job, that's a by-product of all these things. It's always a give and take among all people on the sets," he graciously added. While Haseen Dillruba has faced its share of trolling, it has also been the subject of much praise from actors, directors and critics alike. "The film airs on OTT, thanks to the pandemic and the lockdown. But it’s one of those products that deserved a theatrical release. Perhaps, in the future, when things get better, the makers can opt for a theatrical release. Watch it for its dark take on love and for the brilliant performances by the entire ensemble cast," Filmfare had said in its review of Haseen Dillruba.
