Actor Al Pacino says he was recently on the verge of death, having fallen unconscious after contracting COVID-19.
In a profile with The New York Times, the 84-year-old recalled "I was sitting there in my house, and I was gone… I didn't have a pulse.
"In a matter of minutes they were there – the ambulance in front of my house."

"I had about six paramedics in that living room, and there were two doctors, and they had these outfits on that looked like they were from outer space or something."
The Godfather actor had fallen unconscious as he battled symptoms of COVID-19, including a fever and dehydration, having told his staff he felt "unusually not good". He did not reveal exactly when it occurred.
His last moments were not as many described, the Scarface star shared.

"I didn't see the white light or anything," he said, "There's nothing there.
"I'd never thought about it in my life. But you know actors: It sounds good to say I died once. What is it when there's no more?"
Pacino also shared that his perspective on death has changed substantially as he has aged.

"It's just the way it is," he said, "I didn't ask for it. Just comes, like a lot of things just come."
He did note, however, that "having children is a consolation" for death.
The 84-year-old recently welcomed his youngest child, a son named Roman, now one year old, with his 30-year-old girlfriend Noor Alfallah. His son's birth marks him as one of the oldest fathers on record.

He also has three adult children – Julie Marie with his ex-girlfriend, acting coach Jan Tarrant and twins Anton and Olivia with ex-girlfriend, actress Beverly D'Angelo.
