Charli XCX Suffers Wardrobe Malfunction on 2026 VMAs Red Carpet

Charli XCX stood in front of the cameras at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.

The “Apple” singer, 34, took to the red carpet at the Peacock Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 27, sporting a black velvet skirt and matching long-sleeved top with a mesh cutout in the middle and dramatic bell sleeves. The back of the skirt also featured corset-style laces.

Charli finished off her sultry ensemble with dark eye makeup and her hair styled straight down her shoulders.

The British pop singer went braless for the daring look, but she appeared to suffer a wardrobe malfunction on the carpet, as one of her nipples could be seen peeking out of the top. She either didn’t notice the slip or was simply unbothered as she continued to pose for photos.

Ahead of the show, Charli took to TikTok to show off her look in a video set to “Looking for the Hoes (Ain’t My Fault)” by Sexyy Red.

“Hehe hi!” the singer captioned the video, which showed her backing away from the camera to reveal her full outfit as she rested her hands on her thighs and shook her hips.

Charli comes to the VMAs this year with four nominations: Best Pop, Best Art Direction, Best Long Form Video for her Music, Fashion, Film movie and Song of the Summer for “Camera.” She has been nominated multiple times over the years and once won the Video for Good award in 2025 for her song “Guess” with Billie Eilish.

Charli is also among the presenters at the ceremony this year.

Her appearance at the show comes two months after the release of her eighth studio album, Music, Fashion Film, a follow-up to 2024’s Brat. The project marked a shift from Brat’s club-style music to a more rock-influenced sound.

“All of my albums work in opposites,” Charli told Rolling Stone of the new album in June. “They repel against each other, and that’s the connective tissue. I knew when I was making it that I was never going to make that record again. It’s not creatively rewarding for me to make the same thing twice.”

She added, “I don’t really feel the need to explain my intentions behind anything I do. But I’ll just say I find that things can be earnest and funny at the same time, and they don’t have to exclusively live separately. That’s how I feel about a lot of my work, and if people interpret that as trolling, then that’s fine.”
