Carlton star Matthew Kennedy and wife Maryanne welcome a son and reveal newborn's sweet name: 'You have our hearts'

AFL star Matthew Kennedy is now a dad!

The Carlton player, 27, and wife Maryanne have welcomed their first child together and shared the sweet news on Instagram.

Revealing they had a boy, Maryanne wrote in her caption: "Theodore James Kennedy 05.09.24."

She added: "You have our hearts little man 🤍."

AFL star Patrick Cripps' wife Monique commented underneath: "Mouse in da house <3"

Another follower added: ''Absolute perfection! Congratulations team <3."

Carlton Football Club also shared the happy news on their official Instagram page, writing: "Amazing news! 💙Congratulating Matthew and Maryanne Kennedy on the arrival of their son, Theodore James 🥰."

Carlton fans rushed to congratulate the couple underneath the post.

Just last month, weeks before the birth, Maryanne showed off her baby bump in a candid black and white photo where she cradled her belly.

"Growing a tiny human has been such a wild & beautiful ride. Dad & I are so ready to meet you! 🤍," she wrote.

The young couple first announced their pregnancy news in March, with Maryanne writing: "Baby Kennedy due September."

The pair tied the knot in November in a stunning ceremony.

"You + me, forever <3," she said at the time.

It's believed the pair have been dating since 2021. 

Kennedy, who hails from a rural NSW town, used to play for the Greater Western Sydney Giants before moving to Carlton.

He's played a number of different positions and roles on the field this season, such as a defender to a forward, and told AFL.com.au: "If I look at it as an opportunity and a challenge and get excited for it, the better I go. It's about reminding myself, whatever role I'm playing, what a challenge and opportunity it is."
