Aussie actor Murray Bartlett thanks his mum in sweet speech accepting his first Emmy

Aussie actor Murray Bartlett has officially won his first Emmy Award, securing the gong for Outstanding Supporting Actor in A Limited Series for his breakout role in HBO's The White Lotus.

The 51-year-old star, who studied at Sydney's National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and, like almost every Aussie export who makes it big in Hollywood, got a leg-up with Neighbours and Home and Away, hugged fellow nominees Steve Zahn, 54, and Jake Lacy, 37, before he took the stage.

Accepting the award from Hacks stars Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, Bartlett thanked The White Lotus co-creator Mike White for casting him and "giving [him] one of the best experiences of [his] life."

Of White, Bartlett continued: "Truly, I adore you and I admire you."

The actor, who plays White Lotus hotel manager Armond in the series – a character that is initially mild-mannered but is then driven to drugs and madness by the guests he's required to serve – then went on to thank his loved ones.

"To my P-Town family, I love you, to my partner Matt, thank you for being my sanctuary," he said. "And finally I want to thank my mum all the way home in Australia for giving me the most wonderful foundation of unconditional love and inspiring me to believe that we can all do that for each other."

"So, thank you mum, and thank you for this," he said.
