'60s icon Ann-Margret makes rare public appearance

'60s movie and dance icon Ann-Margret has made a rare public appearance.

The now-84-year-old was spotted at Project Angel Food's Lead With Love fundraiser on June 28, after largely shying away from the spotlight.

The Swedish-American actress wore a black tunic, leggings, and cowboy boots to the event, posing for a picture on the red carpet.

The Bye Bye Birdie star accessorised with a silver cross necklace, a pair of sunglasses she held in her hands, and added curtain bangs to her signature strawberry blonde, blown out hair.

Ann-Margret was joined by many other stars, including Will and Grace actor Eric McCormack, who co-hosted the event.

He praised the star for her "60s dance moves that captivated the world" and called her "the female Elvis," as per E! News.

"You changed how a generation hit the dance floor," the Canadian-American star told the veteran actress, "Where do those incredible moves come from? Does everyone in Sweden dance like that?"

In response she simply said, "My heart and my seat."

In addition to being known as the female Elvis, Ann-Margret also starred with him in the 1964 film Viva Las Vegas and was even reported to be romantically linked to him during the filming of the movie.

She was also renowned for starring in Bye Bye Birdie with Dick Van Dyke the year before.

Following these two hits were a string of flops that led her to go back to Europe for a while, before she returned to find success in supporting roles in the '70s.

In the '80s she went on to appear in television films and from 1990 onward she has regularly appeared in projects such as The Break-Up, The Santa Clause 3, Queen Bees, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Kominsky Method, and many more.

Over her career she obtained five Golden Globe Awards, an Emmy Award, two Academy Award nominations and two Grammy nominations.
