“Beauty will forever be my teacher, and I am a committed student,” Gabbi Pascua tells MEGA. “I genuinely want to learn more and I’m curious as to where my passion for beauty will lead me.”
This is an excerpt from MEGA August 2024 Artist Confidential story.
As a makeup artist who has been in the industry for 12 years now, Gabbi Pascua is known for her signature look inspired by the golden state’s laid back luxury that encapsulates both inner radiance and glamor with ease. “I really like capturing an essence of effortless beauty, or looks that look polished. But not like you’re trying too hard. I always want my clients to feel like themselves, but also like they’re playing dress up at the same time. I never want to change anyone. If anything, I just always want someone to feel the most confident and comfortable in whatever look they’re wearing.”

That opened the doors for her to work with various media, major television networks, star-studded events, and brands such as Burberry, Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo, Tom Ford, and Versace. The Filipino- American makeup artist was also awarded a position in The Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists Guild of Hollywood and has been recognized by The National Television Academy with two Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and five Nominations in the Outstanding Makeup category.
Yet beneath her success, her sense of gratitude and humility shines through. “My career stemmed from a desire to help others and serve in any way possible — I felt such a calling to serve others through beauty. I found so much fulfillment in helping others find confidence,” she says. “Witnessing my clients’ dreams come true and experiencing their major life milestones with them have been unmet. It’s a privilege and honor to be able to have the time with all my clients and I’ve enjoyed it all. It taught me so much about life, perseverance and staying true to myself while I watch everything fall into place. Life happens on life’s terms and all the people I’ve met and have worked with contributed to my life in some sort of way.”
On a personal level, the makeup artist expresses her genuine love for her craftsmanship. “I was never chasing awards or recognition. When I started off, I really just wanted to be able to clock in and clock out as a makeup artist and build a life that felt sincere to me. I just wanted to be an artist, to do good work, help people in the process and not be judged by my age or anything else. And it all happened on a scale larger than I had ever planned for. With hard work and perseverance, dreams do come true.”
Now, Pascua is on to a new chapter in her life: fully embracing the status of becoming a student of beauty. “Beauty will forever be my teacher, and I am a committed student. I’m never leaving the industry,” she says. “Beauty inspires me to seek wisdom, and it has been my biggest personal challenge while, quite frankly, my biggest success too. I genuinely want to learn more and I’m curious as to where my passion for beauty will lead me. I will always and forever be a student of beauty—not just within the industry, but a student of its life lessons as well.”
The same ethos applies for her media company, ASOB Media, which she describes is an extension of her heart being shared on screens. “Everything today has been a result of my experiences as a makeup artist to the process of founding an indie beauty brand. I had the privilege to begin my career in Los Angeles in 2010,” she looks back. “I had a front row seat to see how digital media shifted the beauty landscape, yet I was mentored by artists who built careers offline. I wanted to find a way to create longevity for myself in beauty. I saw it going straight into the digital marketplace, so this was inevitable—I just didn’t know when or how it would look like.”
But one thing is for sure: Pascua is on a mission to tell stories and connect with others. “I think of it this way, if I can be of service to those I work with on set, then what more in the digital space, where I can connect with more people beyond the set and in different cities and countries. This process also has taken time for me to find my voice and my purpose.”
